Passion plays in Europe

The interpretation of the Passion has a long tradition in Europe and today passion plays and processions are performed across many countries during Holy Week. The Europassion network was formed to unite groups performing Passion plays from Western and Eastern Europe: “the same faith, the same ideal”.

Passion plays in America

A two hour passion play was performed by a cast of offenders from Louisiana State Penitentiary and Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women. It depicted the complete story of Jesus’ life and resurrection in a live outdoor event on the grounds of Louisiana State Penitentiary.

Passion plays in Australia

The story of Christ’s death and resurrection was performed in the beautiful grounds of Government House in St George’s Terrace on March 31st 2012.  Award winning director Anthony Howes said:  “For the first time in many years the Easter story as a play will be presented in the heart of the city.  It allows a wonderful preparation for performer and audience alike, as Lent ends and we await the impact that Easter must mean for all throughout Perth, both believer and non-believer.  It is also a tremendous opportunity to join together as an audience to proclaim the Christian faith and show by sheer numbers assembled that the Easter story really matters to us and to all the community”.
