A man in modern clothes, portraying Jesus in a Passion Play, walks his wooden cross up a busy small street. He is surrounded by other actors as well as crowds of people following the procession to see what is happening.

Easter 2022 is an exciting year for Passion Plays!

Once again there will be free live performances in city centres this Easter. These include Bishop AucklandChester, Edinburgh, Hamilton, Havant, Heworth and Felling, Hornchurch, Liverpool, Norwich, Nuneaton, Oxford, Poole, Worcester, Yeovil.

We are excited about the Norwich Passion Play, headed up by the talented producer and some of the team from the Birmingham Passion. They will work with volunteers and arts professionals from Norwich to bring the Bible story to life for the first time there this Easter.

We are equally excited about a new musical Passion in Nuneaton. This will be an imaginative and exciting new production of the story of Jesus Christ. And comes from Artistic Directors with experience of outdoor musical performances. One of our Trustees is also closely involved in an adaptation of the Passion Play for the Edinburgh Fringe.

A participatory and ecumenical performance of the Easter story will take place in Heworth and Felling. It will use surrounding public and outdoor spaces, as well as two weeks of performances in the church buildings. And in Yeovil, a Passion Play will be performed in the local prison.

Performances for 2022 will be adventurous and innovative, particularly after all the lessons learned through the lockdowns and the long time spent planning and preparing for a live Easter performance.
