The Heworth Mystery Play is a participatory and ecumenical production centred around St Mary’s, Heworth, and neighbouring Christchurch, Felling.

The Heworth Passion Play is

is a partnership project of St Mary’s Church, Heworth, and Christchurch, Felling , involving Gateshead deanery and drawing on the experience and expertise of professional producers. The project also benefits from the experience of St Mary’s incumbent Rev Kate Jamie, who spent a number of years in community theatre and education before ordination. The church is the owner of the project.

The Producer is Damn Cheek Productions CIC, producers of the successful Malvern Mystery Play in 2019. Damn Cheek is a vibrant, innovative touring production company dedicated to new material & challenging performance. Born out of 25 years of collaborative practice, Damn Cheek, founded in 2013, continues to champion original writing that reflects & re-imagines medieval, modern & contemporary history.
